Greg Horsman

Greg’s distinguished dance career began in Geelong, Victoria, training under the guidance of Peter Dickinson, followed by formal training with Anne Woolliams at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School. He joined The Australian Ballet in 1982 and rose to the rank of Principal Artist in 1987. Over his career, he performed a broad range of classical and contemporary works, working with leading choreographers including Sir Kenneth MacMillan, Glen Tetley, Maurice Béjart, Jiří Kylián, and Graeme Murphy.
As a Guest Principal Artist, Greg appeared with major international companies such as the Mariinsky Ballet, Royal Danish Ballet, Boston Ballet, Houston Ballet, Bayerisches Staatsballett, and Tokyo Ballet. He was also featured in Rudolf Nureyev’s Farewell Tour of Australia and performed at the 6th and 7th World Ballet Festivals in Japan.
In 1994, he joined English National Ballet as a Senior Principal, where he originated notable roles including the Mad Hatter in Derek Deane’s Alice in Wonderland and Drosselmeyer in Deane’s The Nutcracker and the Prince in Michael Corder’s Cinderella. He starred in Deane’s arena productions of Swan Lake and Romeo and Juliet at the Royal Albert Hall and performed the roles of both Romeo and Mercutio in Nureyev’s Romeo and Juliet.
Greg transitioned into leadership in 1998 as Assistant Artistic Director of Ballet Central at London’s Central School of Ballet. In 2001, he became Ballet Master at Northern Ballet, then returned to English National Ballet in 2003 as Ballet Master and repetiteur. He held similar roles at the Royal New Zealand Ballet from 2006, and at Queensland Ballet from 2013, serving as Assistant Artistic Director from 2023 to 2025 and was Acting Artistic Director in 2024.
Greg has also been in demand internationally as a guest teacher and Ballet Master, working with companies such as Birmingham Royal Ballet, Scottish Ballet, Rambert, Royal Swedish Ballet, La Scala Ballet, Staatsballett Berlin, The Australian Ballet, and Sydney Dance Company.
As a choreographer, Greg has created original works for Ballet Central, English National Ballet, Royal New Zealand Ballet, West Australian Ballet, Royal Winnipeg Ballet, and Queensland Ballet. His production of The Sleeping Beauty was a major box office success for both Royal New Zealand Ballet and Queensland Ballet. Other acclaimed works include Coppélia, La Bayadère, Verdi Variations, Glass Concerto, and Never Stop Falling in Love. In 2022, he premiered Peter & the Wolf, his first ballet for children, alongside A Rhapsody in Motion, both for Queensland Ballet.
Greg joined West Australian Ballet as Rehearsal Director in 2026.
