Gakuro Matsui

Gakuro was born in Tokyo, Japan and graduated from L’Ecole de Danse de l’Opera national de Paris, and Mika Sasaki Ballet Academy. As a professional dancer, he has worked with Royal Danish Ballet, Norwegian National Ballet as Principal, and with Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo.

His career highlights include winning a prize at Prix de Lausanne, and performing the roles of Basilio in Rudolf Noureev’s Don Quixote, Albrecht in Cynthia Harvey’s Giselle, Prince Florimand in Harvey’s Sleeping Beauty, Lensky in Cranko’s Onegin, Romeo in Michael Corder’s Romeo and Juliette, Prince Siegfried in Anna Maire Holmes’s Swan Lake, and Lescaut in Macmilan’s Manon. Gakuro has also danced many pieces from Balanchine, Duato, Dawson, Forsythe, Kilyan, and Lightfoot Leon.
